In the event of a real emergency situation, it is essential to have prepared as best you can before the event happens. The Latter Day Saint (Mormon) community is notorious for being right on the money about food storage and preparedness. Whether or not you believe the religious doctrine, everyone can benefit from this free Preparedness Manual. To skip to the relevant information, go to page 16. Barb

I kind of fell in to being prepared as my daughter is on a very, very limited diet. We can’t always get the food she can eat so I stockpile. That carried over to every other aspect of our life.
We have about 1 years worth of food (if rationed), canned, dried, or stored. One thing we don’t have and I have always wanted is a root cellar. Next!
We also have a generator, propane stores and my son can do building assessment if we have an earthquake.
I too like being prepared Barbara. Now the challenge I do have is dog food! They eat raw. Better go get a bag of dehydrated stuff.
Thanks for reminding!
Beth

Beth, assuming you will have electricity you can stock pile meaty bones. Our local feed store cares them. Sometimes I go out to the slaughter house on Perkinville Rd. and buy them but mostly I get them from Legacy Beef when I buy their grass fed beef. She sells the bones (all types) at $4./bag. I use them to make beef stock and then freeze that to use for soup or stew base. Where do you live? I live in north central Arizona near Prescott. ja

Vancouver island. I do have a stock pile of bison bones for the dogs but they are in the freezer. I do have a generator but don’t want to be using it for just freezers. I feed the dogs raw only. I think there is a type of kibble that is dehydrated raw bison. Will get a bag and store in shed. Good reminder, thanks. Especially in light of earthquake in Mexico. It’s not if it’s when!

The most practical solution to the raw diet is to cultivate rabbits, chickens, or other small meat source. Unless you are vegetarian, this is also preparedness for you and your family as well.

Barbara –
Thanks for posting this manual. I may not agree with all of the LDS doctrine but I agree with the Gospel Message and I believe it’s critically important to recognize their opening advice is to be spiritually prepared. Jesus says in Luke 7:47-48, “Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”
I worry about the people who see the importance of physically preparing for HARD times but are missing the spiritual component. Jesus continues in Luke 7:49 “But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
To truly understand what is going on in the world is to recognize the EVIL intentions of the EVIL people in power. The strength to survive evil comes from a strong foundation in GOD who is righteous and GOOD. Seriously, if Jesus was having a town hall meeting, how many people would go see Him? How many of those people would really listen to Him? How many of those people would actually do what He told them to?

if you go look for the new updates Exec order obama just signed theres ONE huge addition to the clause which will negate all our prep.
see the very last words..
it appears they added a cover their butt for control and possession of all you own and all you are.
once this sort of edict was ONLY for time of war, now they add econimic and financial?
and usa is 17 trillion in debt.
the full range of orders inc ALL land food stock fuel minerals AND the right to use civillians for labour and move them as they choose.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

P.S. This will just add fuel to my fire. Working on the Seed Lady Network, an open source seed sharing project. If your garden gets wiped out, then you can restock your seed supply and start it up again. This is guerrilla warfare tactics. If this is how they want to do it, then we can fight back using these tactics.

yes!!! :-)
like seed savers was and then got corrupted by vested interests.
we have Diggers in aus, heritage heirloom seeds, and others smaller but no less precious.
buy as many as you can , store them carefully grow them and save the seed.
share produce with the admonition to save the seed, and share some on.
It will be the only way to keep food independance continuing!

I like what you are doing here. Check out” Walipini” it may help you in being prepared . It comes from the Ezra Taft Benson institute (moromon’s). Permaculture is also very interesting and simple. If you know a mormon you can ask them to help at the cannery. This is were we (mormon’s) get together and can dry goods and buy in bulk (money saver).

great thing to do:-)
I am not that…old , and not mormon:-)and remember the entire extended family gathering to cut and pit apricots for drying and jams and chutneys.
so we all learnt by doing and watching how from littlies onward.
so few people have any idea how easy it is to make long term useable food at home
it tastes better, its made with love and care for you BY you,and your family.
neglected trees, overloaded trees people who have trees producing food they let drop to the ground, while they pay at the supermarkets for “excuse for food+ items..
go ask, or go pick on deserted areas.
always leave some for the animals/birds who also depend on it..
I’ve found using clean washed and oven sterilizing the Agee twist caps and jars are just fine for waterbath preserves.
and pickles sauces and chutneys..
lightweight no expensive rubber seals and rusting caps like Vacola Jars.
