As we approach what will be a landmark decision for those of us in an agricultural belt whose main crop is alfalfa, I offer this one plea on behalf of reason, before the final verdict is in:
An Appeal for Common Sense to prevail in the case of Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, No. 09-475, in which Judge Clarence Thomas is presiding.
Come on Clarence, we know you can do it! You can make the right decision and uphold the ban on genetically modified (GM) alfalfa. The question is, do you want to? After years of bowing to your GM masters, can you make the leap and strike a blow for food freedom?
Any thinking person knows that genetic modification allowed to spread uncontrolled is harmful to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And just how long do you think it will take for the unbridled scourge of anti-biotic resistance given to us by the genetic engineering process itself, to affect someone in your family? The growth of bacteria is exponential! Or, if you are not planning on being around for that, or feel you are sufficiently protected from having to eat what we the people eat, then by all means support Monsanto, just like the Federal Government does:
And don’t fall for that genetic modification as the new “cure for world hunger” baloney. Any thinking person knows that this is merely a good propaganda buzz phrase used for advertising. Genetic modification has nothing to do with curing hunger, but rather everything to do with increasing the bottom line.
The question is, Clarence, WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Well said, Barbara! short, but to the point and right on! And thought provoking….I suggest we all write the judge instead of sit back and wait passively to see what happens. I think the American way has become just that. And that is why they win, all the time. Pressure works, let’s put the heat on them! Thank you all.

life is a perfect example of a Complex System. This means such things as human consciousness, at the level it is at now, and the immune system that protects it are NOT examples of top down CREATION, where the designer sits on his throne and dictates how life should have played out, and tries to create life into his personal, (The self-appointed Crator or Dictator)… IMAGE.. where all things work as slaves for his good.
No, consciousness, at the present level, and millions of other things…. EMERGED, from the BOTTOM UP, where there was NO central planner, or self-appointed dictator, self organized from the BOTTOM UP, or through the synergistic, networking of the millions of interconnected, diverse parts.
In Life, the MACRO BEHAVIOR, that is produced, CANNOT or could NOT have been predicted from the personal attributes of the MICRO LEVEL, from which it, (through millions of networking connections of the millions of parts).. EMERGED! The micro level or individual parts are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN NATURE OR ESSENCE than the MACRO or WHOLISTIC SYSTEM which emerged!
For something from the MACRO Level, to try and direct the evolvement of such a system from a TOP DOWN, NARROW MINDED VIEW POINT, WHERE THE IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCES OF ONE’S own ACTONS CANNOT BE SEEN BY THE CREATOR…IS INSANE AT BEST. It’s like a blind man trying to convince people that he can lead others on a tour of the Grand Canyon, where the entire trip will be made by walking on the rim of the Canyon. Now, who is the most stupid one, the blind man, or those that follow his lead?
In Complex Systems, we should be paying attention to preserving things which are necessary for survival in landscapes that are totally unpredictable,or that are dancing, and where LARGE EVENTS, can occur from the tiniest butter fly flapping it’s wings at the prescise moment, which means paying attention to SELECTING FORCES in place, helping establish SYNERGISTIC CONNECTIONS between the parts, and NOT letting temporary efficiency and convenience,…push out DIVERSITY which is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY IF something IS TO REMAIN ADAPTABLE,…while being suspended within the UNPREDICTABLE!!
