hey barbara, thanks for showing your readers my video. i like raised beds for many reasons.
They are easier to work if you have a bad back, like me.
They warm up faster in the spring.
You have fewer weeds creeping in.
My dogs, for the most part, stay out of them.

Raised beds are also a necessity if you are not sure whether the soil is contaminated. It might have lead in it from old paint chips, discarded motor oil or fuel oil, or other substances that will get into the food you grow. There are ways to fix this (check out the Radical Urban Sustainability Collective at http://www.rhizomecollective.org/rust.html for soil rehab on the cheap) but it takes time that you may not have. If you need your crop this season, a quicker solution is to build raised beds, line them with landscape fabric, and bring in soil and compost from some uncontaminated source.
